I would most definitely suggest X-Chat.  It has come a LONG way in a fairly
short time, and not only is it gtk+, it supports plugins for Python and Perl
scripts.  IOW, it is VERY slick.  I've noticed some other really neat things
about it, such as nick information caching.  It fetches information about nicks
in the background so when you put your mouse over any name, it underlines the
name indicating that you can right click on it to get a context menu of
options.  One of these options contains the "whois" information about the
nick/user.

Plus, it looks GREAT with the AquaZ gtk theme. ;-)
