I use IMAP from debian potato/frozen. I've never had 'hacking' issues
with it at all. Redhat 5.x had some 'issues' with its included IMAP
daemon.
I also use ipop3d now because of my imap-before-smtp policy with postfix.
Theres a neat script that watches the imap logs and keeps track of who can
relay within the next 1/2 hour :)
