TERM problems

I just upgraded from mandrake 6.0 to 7.0 an now when I run, say jed, por
pine or other text programs, I get:

[lueyb@localhost doc]$ jed UPGRADE 
Unknown terminal: rxvt
Check the TERM environment variable.
Also make sure that the terminal is defined in the terminfo database.
Alternatively, set the TERMCAP environment variable to the desired
termcap entry.
[lueyb@localhost doc]$ echo $TERM
rxvt

I get this in X  ($TERm=rxvt) and when not in X ($TERM=linux)

I never had this problem before. less and more give me warnings about my
term settings. If I force TERM to equal xterm or something, it usually
works, but sometimes with problems. How can I fix this?
