mailertables

I'm working on setting up virtual mailertables.. I have configured my
sendmail.mc with the debian sendmail config script, the mailer table is
there, and all happy.. the maps even show up in sendmail -bt
but the mailer is ignoring the mailertable.. and I have no idea why.. 

any suggestions?

box is debian slink standard.. 8.9.3 sendmail..
