Removing a Process

Greet the sun all,

Question, how do you remove a process? I have a resource-constrained
system where I don't need sendmail, lpd, pcmcia, etc. I don't want them
to start up at system boot time. I looked at the rc.d directories and
found references to them at each level. I could not find anything in
linuxconf concerning boot-up processes. Do I remove references to the
processes in each directory of rc.d (rc0.d, rc1.d, etc)?
