Doing a quick look on Google, the only Linux related FTP filesystems
stuff is the virtual filesystem code in Midnight Commander.  It doesn't
really mount stuff, but it kind of looks like it (like how you can go to
/mnt/cdrom in XMMS and see all the tracks on an audio CD..)

It would be really good for web development.  However, the kernel has
enough trouble with NFS shares on relatively close (network-wise)
servers.  I'd hate to see all the dead processes that would result from
mounting an ftp directory from a server that is completely bogged..
