Question On Internet with Linux Mandrake 6.5

Hello, I am using linux mandrake 6.5 and i am trying to setup an internet 
connection. I made sure i dont have a winmodem. when i get everything setup 
using Kppp i click connect on the menu, it then comes up with a box that says 
"modem is not working" and when i try different ports i also get "modem is 
busy", if anyoen could help me out i would greatly appreciate it.
