I think what I had was a WheelMouse USB. Not totally for sure, I borrowed
it from someone to try it out in Linux.
I was using a devel kernel (I think it was a 2.3.99) so maybe the code is
a little better now. The kerenl tree doesn't always reflect the latest
advancements.
