Modem Problem

I recently upgraded to Linux-Mandrake 7.0 from 6.0.  At the same time I
did this I also upgraded my modem to a 56K 3Com PCI unit. When I
installed Mandrake 7.0 it failed to recognize my modem.  I checked the
/proc/pci file and it seems my sound card and modem are trying to use
irq 9.  How do I change the irq setting for the modem?  Do I have to do
it physically on the modem?  I appreciate any help.
