I have not used it yet. However, we are (aka "I am") looking at it for
work (U Libraries). I will be installing it on our webserver probably next
week, and comparing it to Zope, and just straight PHP. My initial view of
it is that it is less complete than Zope, but has a nicer syntax (I prefer
PHP's C/Perl/Java-ish syntax to Zope's HTML-ish syntax). Midgard is less
OO than Zope, too. My overall impression of the whole concept of an
application server right now is that it seems rather limiting, but again,
I have not done much with either project. Perhaps in a week or so I can
give my impressions to the list.
What I'm REALLY interested in seeing is SPEED comparisions of these
platforms against each other:
* ASP
* JSP
* Zope
* PHP3
* PHP4 (Zend Engine)
* Midgard
and, for completeness
* Mason embeded perl
Will using Midgard slow down a PHP site? Is Zope too slow to use on a
"real" site? I know PHP3 is "good enough" for a "real" site (or at least,
would fit the demands that we have), and that PHP4 is MUCH faster than 3.
I am extremely curious about the speed of Zope/Midgard, and have so far
been unable to find any references. If anyone knows where to find
statistics on this, do tell..
