more gdm stuff

Sorry I didn't look hard enough first, folks, this could be the stuff I need to
get this working:

Here's what's in /var/log/messages after attempting to login thru gdm:


Jul 20 19:51:07 londinium gdm[470]: gdm_auth_secure_display: Could not unlink /v
ar/gdm/:0.xauth file: No such file or directory
Jul 20 19:51:09 londinium gdm[470]: gdm_xdmcp_init: Could not bind to XDMCP sock
et!


Could someone pass along permissions on their systems for /var/gdm/ and
everything in it? Mine are:

total 8
drwxr-x---   2 gdm      gdm          1024 Jul 20 19:51 ./
drwxr-xr-x  16 root     root         1024 Aug  2  1998 ../
-rw-r--r--   1 root     gdm          4434 Jul 20 20:06 :0.log
-rw-r-----   1 root     gdm            54 Jul 20 19:51 :0.xauth

The bit in that log file that might help someone explain to me the inability to
login is:

Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkcontainer.c: line 708 (gtk_container_add): assertion
`widget->parent == NULL' failed.
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
