Ah, yes. I neglected to include the 'directory' in the above command. The
result was that it was creating the tarball and gave it the name of the
first file listed in the directory, thereby nuking the contents of that
file. Let's just say I was glad that I'd just made a copy of the directory
in question before trying it for the first time. :-) Why don't I think to
do that kind of thing more often?
