You don't really need to mess with C to do this.  At most, you would
probably have to peruse the makefile to get the right command.  Many
times, you just use 'configure' followed by 'make' to get it to compile.

I've had some instances where installing the package using the source it
just as easy if not easier than working around the strangeness that can
occur with rpm's.

Thanks, but that is a last resort.  I'm not much of one to fool around
with
C code.

Carlos Sabo sent me to ftp.celestial.com which has a host of compiled sco
"skunkware".  ftp://ftp.celestial.com/pub/sco-ports/unix/.
