Actually, I have a basic games book from like 1982 that uses MS BASIC
(shudder) and implements eliza.  I translated that program line for line
into perl -- but it's obviously better to write these types of programs
from scratch.

Right... as I said in my previous post, the basic engine is trivial and
can be implemented in almost any language.
