(ASCEND) PPP on Windows 98

Hi folks!!
I am some problems to dial my computer with win98 to a MAX.
I couldnīt logon on the remote network, it seems a kind of win98 problem I
think.

On PPP debug mode on MAX I have the following lines:
 > pppif
PPPIF debug is ON
 > PPPIF: open: routeid 2, incoming YES
PPPIF-1: ASYNC mode
PPPIF-1: vj comp on
PPPIF-1: _initAuthentication
PPPIF-1: auth mode 3
PPPIF-1: PAP/CHAP/MS-CHAP auth, incoming
PPPIF-1: bypassing async layer
PPPIF-1: Link Is up.
PPPIF-1: LCP closed: Timeout

And on the win98 side I have the error 650 that means the  The Remote
Access server is not responding.

But I could connect to the MAX if I use win95 workstation!!!

I would like to know if someone have experienced similar problem and if
there is a workaround.
