(ASCEND) dial-in ppp routes

I'm trying to get a MAX 4060 to work as an access-server for an ISP.

When the users dial-in everything works fine until the ppp address of the
interface needs to be added to the routing table, which fails.

I mean, the user dials-in, gets authenticated with the radius (merit)
server, he gets an ip address from pool#1 as expected.

then i can see the interface (eg: wan0) configured up doing a:
sh ip addr

everything is fine but i cannot ping the assigned address and the routing
table (iprou sh) is not modified, I assume I should see that ip address
bound to its interface there....
i start the ping from the max to the user, then i sniff the subnet and i
can see that the max is asking out if anyone has that address.

i tried this with revision 5.0Ap11 and now with 5.0Ap38.
in the configuration i disabled rip and ospf, the ip-pool#1 is a
part of the C class in which is the ethernet of the max, proxy-mode is set
to "active", route-ip is "yes" in ppp-options, bridging is "no".
no static routes have been added, only the default gateway.
all my users in radius are set up as follows:

user	Password="xxxxxx"
	Service-Type = Framed,
	Framed-Protocol = PPP,
	Framed-Compression = Van-Jacobson-TCP-IP

i'm sure i'm lacking something, but i cannot understand where, all the
part of ppp and ip seems to be configured...

many thanks to anyone who can help
