6.1.7 for the max 4000 had a memeory leak that would reboot me every  
week or so....

maybe this is the issue.

Yes, sure. But everytime we had fatal reboots during the last
weeks the fat told us "Fatal Error xxx" and "System is up" a minute
later.

But this time we had only a "System is up" and no Errors or Warnings.
I didn't know that this could happen.
