(ASCEND) Max2024 - Ethernet collisions & delays

I have a Max2024 running 5.0Ap33. I have bridging enabled.
It has always had a high number of collisions. I was assuming
that it was because it was on a busy hub. I moved it to a switch
port and rebooted it. The number of collisions has not decreased.
It always seems to be about 10% of packets transmitted. Is this normal?

50-400 Ether Stat
Rx Pkt: 3031175
Tx Pkt: 1763127
    Col: 166845

Also, sometimes the packets get delayed for several seconds.
The samples below are from pinging another device that is directly
connected to the switch. No packets are ever lost.

64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=116 ttl=255 time=0 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=117 ttl=255 time=10 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=118 ttl=255 time=3180 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=119 ttl=255 time=1860 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=120 ttl=255 time=1180 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=121 ttl=255 time=0 ms

64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=409 ttl=255 time=3140 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=410 ttl=255 time=1750 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=411 ttl=255 time=710 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=412 ttl=255 time=10 ms

64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=476 ttl=255 time=0 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=477 ttl=255 time=2790 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=478 ttl=255 time=1390 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=479 ttl=255 time=10 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=480 ttl=255 time=0 ms

These problems seem to be unrelated. I have seen the ping problem
without any collisions.

Any ideas?
