1) doesn't work _perfectly_ because ascend filters lack some features 
(i would like to get syslog messages for selected filter lines.  And i
would like to have some kind of generic filters, like "ip in forward
srcip $FRAMED_ADDRESS/$FRAMED_NETMASK", with expansions done by the max).
