(ASCEND) Pipeline 75 NAT, traceroute - I fixed it :-)
Greetings all -
I'm one of the perpetual whiners about not being able to do traceroutes
under NAT on my P75 (which happens to be the older model, but you folks
with newer ones don't fair any better). I've been using the Pipe for nearly
two years, including the first several(?) months when there was no working
NAT code.
Three days ago the frustration over the lack of a working traceroute
overcame me once again and I fired off (yet another) missive to Ascend. I
received a brand spanking new ticket # in return.
That night I went out and bought ($350 at CompU$A) a brand spanking new
Netgear RT328 ISDN router and installed it almost no time. Does NAT just
fine but... traceroute didn't work! So I went to Netgear's website and
downloaded a new code revision for the router. Now I have NAT *and*
traceroute (and a Pipeline 75 for sale).
I feel good!
(I should mention... Almost exactly 72 hours after getting my new ticket
number from Ascend, I got an email with a technical explanation of why it
is so difficult for Ascend to implement traceroute under NAT. No mention or
promise that it would ever be fixed by them. I'm afraid I didn't try to
understand Ascend explanation. I like my fix just fine.)
