(ASCEND) Max 4000 / 7.0b2 - looking good
Hi,
several of our ISDN customers connecting to a 6.1.7-max were
suffering from what Andre Beck describes as "Zombie connections",
that is a complete stall of data flow. The only remedy is to
gracefully shutdown the connection. Apart from this flaw (and the
infamous LQM problems) 6.1.7 has been up and running on this box
since the day it was released.
Our "zombie" problem sounds much like TR 250249 ("After a period of
time, MAX stopped routing packets to dial-up P50s") and according
to the release notes it is fixed in 6.0.9 and 7.0b2.
Since most of our 56K customers have moved to V.90, 6.0.9 wasn't
really an option, so we decided to go with the beta :) Anyway,
7.0b2 doesn't seem bad at all. Despite tons of new features/changes,
it appears to run very nicely. What surprised us most, this
release yields more free memory (roughly 20%-25%) than all
previous versions we tested (>5.0Ap11). BTW, the max has OSPF
enabled, no stacking though.
After some very unfortunate 6.1.X releases, at the first glance
this one looks very promising.
