(ASCEND) 3 year Pipeline 75 and malfunctioning devices on analogue ports

I have a UK spec Pipeline 75.When I put a BT Response 120 answer
phone on one of the analogue ports, not only does the ringing of the
phone sound extra loud, and "odd",it takes at least 12 rings before it
answers. Most callers have hung up long before then. What is odd about
the ring signal from these ports, that should cause this, and how can I
correct it,please? The phone, connected to my normal, none ISDN wall
socket,functions perfectly,and answers after 2 rings,as
designed.Another possible clue is,if I plug a second device (a
portable house phone,in parallel with the answer phone,on the same
analogue port,it makes the number of rings before the answer phone
starts to answer,even longer....

Thanks for any help.

Someone I know (yep the proverbial guy down the pub) says he's heard
of a mod with a capacitor across two pins of the analogue socket. As
to the caps value, and which pins... ;-)?
