All,
I spent the last couple of days out at Ascend meeting with several
of their engineers in regards to next generation equipment and also
I used this time to bring up outstanding issues on the current equipment.
I am very pleased to say that it seems as if Ascend has taken on a
new approach to product engineering, I am under NDA for the majority
of the discussions we had but I can say this:
Old Ascend was always the first to market several new technologies
and there wasn't much thought put into chassis design, cooling and not to
mention a severe lack of extensive regression testing on software loads.
Myself and many of you remember and lived with these issues daily in
our environments, we all suffered.
However, It seems as Ascend has learned, in many of those meetings I had
with them last week I was very surprised on the new approach the
engineers are taking towards the future, I dub it a true engineering
approach, unlike before. They have made several phnominal achievements in
the cooling of their equipment coupled with new card redesigns and chassis
design they really have gotten a clue of what users need/expect of their
equipment in our environments.
They really want to increase the life expectancy of their equipment in the
field, and they are working on cool items to make sure that their
equipment is easily upgraded to stay up to snuff in this fast paced
environment.
I've been in a partnership with Ascend for some time now, going on
about 3 years, and hell I've been through all the ups and downs.
Ascend is definitely on the up here and going forward, if Ascend continues
this true engineering approach to product design and software design.
I feel very confident in staying with them as my choice for access
switches.
