RE: (ASCEND) Pipeline 75 Version Question
Hello Dave,
I have an early-model P75 (S/N 70755xx) running 6.0.6 and I can report
that it until this afternoon it had been up 46 days straight. I
rebooted it thinking the P75 had at last hiccuped, but subsequently
discovered the phone company had done something to my ISDN line.
I am a full-time telecommuter and 6.0.6 has done great job of supporting
dialup/drop on demand, dynamic bandwidth allocation, plus the occasional
incoming and outgoing FAX via one of the POTS ports. It is working
exactly as I had envisioned when I bought it. (By the way, my ISP uses
Livingston equipment.)
Lest I sound way too satisfied, I must also report there was a long,
dark period (from the very beginning and going for about two years) when
the P75 was sometimes my daily nemesis. It would crash for one reason
after another, sometimes as often as every few hours if I was racking up
a lot of dial/drop cycles. FAX'ing had to be done judiciously, lest the
P75 crash while I was in the middle of an important file transfer. And
so on.
Anyway, that's my testimony on 6.0.6 as things stands today.

Subject: (ASCEND) Pipeline 75 Version Question
Hello Ascend Experts,
I have a early Pipeline 75 which I recently successfully upgraded to
the latest b.p75 file, version 6.0.9. However it seems slightly less
stable, having crashed twice in the last month, than the previous
b.p75, version 5.1Ap2, that I had been using and never crashed.
I am now somewhat confused as to what version I should be using as
it seems Ascend has dropped the previous patch/incremental notation
that provided some guidance regarding stability. Ascend suggested I
go back to version 5.1Ap8 but that seems pretty old and makes me
wonder what all the subsequent upgrades accomplish if I am advised
not to use them.
What version of b.p75 would you recommend I use with my Pipeline 75
and why?
Dave
Also, I am considering going to NT Proxy Server to reduce the number
of IP address I need to pay for each month. Does anyone have success
stories or other thoughts they can share?
