(ASCEND) MAX 4000 modem card woes...
It looks like the saga of our ancient (S/N 529xxxx) MAX is approaching a
possible solution. We have installed a new modem card that we have
confirmed works fine. However, it is causing other cards in the MAX to
not operate properly.
After trying various combinations of cards and slots, I noticed that there
was no regular pattern to it. This led me to believe that it is probably
a power issue (this unit has the older 1.6(?) Amp power supply). A call
to Ascend support confirms this. Additionally, when only 5 cards are
plugged in (these are all SL-8MOD cards) everything seems to work fine.
When all 6 cards are in and the unit happens to muster the power to get
all of them going, it resets frequently.
I guess my question now is whether or not anyone has a power supply (2.5
Amp or whatever the newer ones are rated at) they are willing to part
with.
Anyone know if I can install the bigger power supply in this MAX? The
chassis looks identical but I'm hoping they didn't change the mounting
brackets, etc. for the power supply...
If anyone has one of these babies please let me know and we'll work out a
deal.
