Re: (ASCEND) HA-192 on TNT 2.0.7
Just to update y'all:
I've spoken with our SE and many of you concerning the HA-192's
limitations, and here's what Ascend's doing about the problem.
The good news is that you don't need any HDLC channels if all you're
supporting is analog modems, including v.90/kflex. HDLCs are only
required for channelized trunks which are Frame Delay circuits, PRI,
etc.
Yes, the HDLC processors in the TNT's HA-192 card are limited in the
same fashion the 400x's were. The 32 channels per processor is, of
course, by design of the E1 line standard. That much is forgivable.
Ascend's support department was quick to offer two solutions to my
predicament. First, additional HA-192 cards (at no cost) to fill out
the spaces left behind by implementation problems on their end, and a
free replacement HA-192/256 card when they finish hardware redesign. I
got conflicting messages as to which card was actually being
(re)developed, although I'm assuming it's a HA-256 card since the new
card will inherit the same 24-out-of-32 problem that the current 192 is
exhibiting.
You'd think I'd have learned by now not to assume ANYTHING ;)
Anyway, thanks to Ascend and the learned members of the list for some
much-needed insight.
