(ASCEND) install tip on acm/uaw on nt 4.0
For what it's worth, here's an account of installing acm and uaw on NT.
When I registered for a demo license of Access Control 1.0ai11 for NT
at Morningstar, I also chose to download the combined zip file containing
both acm and uaw.
Upon unzipping the file, I chose to install each package from the disk1
dir of each respective application. The install seemed to go smoothly; no
error messages were reported. All icons were installed, etc. etc.
However, upon attempting to execute the acm or uaw binary, it threw an
error saying that it could not find mfc30.dll (same error message, both
apps).
I goofed around with it for a bit, tried reinstalling it, tried unzipping
it again, and a couple of other things. It kept reporting the same error.
I finally just uninstalled both applications from add/remove programs.
Then, I downloaded acm by itself and installed it. Sure enough, as I
watched each file be copied over, I saw mfc30.dll actually get installed
this time and the application can be executed without difficulty.
So, the moral of the story is: don't use the current build of the zip file
containing both apps. Just install them separately.
regards,
jeff
