(ASCEND) 56k Hayes Accura into Max 40xx ??

Hi all,

I have a customer using a Hayes Accura 56k external with
firmware version/serial AC5690B1

This customer claims that he went away on vacation on
12 July and returned on 18 July and this problem
has only been evident since his return, claiming that
prior to vacation 56k connection worked fine.
He "CLAIMS" to have made no changes to his configuration
and has not installed any software during this time.

We have made no upgrades to our currently running
MAX software (feik.m40 6.1.3) during that time.

If the customer forces the modem to connect only at 33.6
and not 56k, it works fine. However, if the modem
attempts to connect at 56k, it will establish a TCP/IP
connection, or at best it will be very erratic for a few
seconds then die. The ping extract below is taken with
the customer connected at 44000 / 28800 (k56flex).
After the final couple of pings listed, it stopped responding
altogether. Customer is unable to initiate outgoing
TCP in any case.

Has anyone else experienced this problem (which looks very similar
to the USR Sportster 'Spiral of Death' problem) with the Hayes
Accura 56k modems ? Any work-arounds ?

Thanks in advance
