>WINS is only used by "Microsoft Networking" applications like Network >Neighborhood browsing and CIFS file service. Straight TCP/IP applications >like ping, telnet, ftp, etc. do not query WINS for addresses. This is not necessarily true! IP applications under win95 use Nbt (netbios over TCP/IP) to make socket connections. As for name resolution, the sequence is: host/lmhost files -> DNS server -> WINS. This whole scenario works with Maxen. I personally use 5.0Ap5 and it just works! >Assigning WINS from the Max works fine for me. (I'm currently on 5.0Ap20 >but it worked with earlier versions too.) Ditto. You may want to look at routing to your WINS server. Maybe try a static route. A trace might also help. -Jman- ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: <http://www.nealis.net/ascend/faq>

Prev by Date: Re: (ASCEND) Re: Motorola ModemSurf Problems

Next by Date: Re: (ASCEND) Motorola 56K Random Disconnects

Prev by thread: Re: (ASCEND) Max4000 & WINS

Next by thread: (ASCEND) Re: Motorola ModemSurf Problems

Index(es):

Main

Thread
