This is not possible. The maxen were making the burp tone before 56K
even came out. Someone once called it an 'Ascend dialtone', and we set
an option in our maxen to turn it off (this is last Fall, long before we
got 56K cards). It occurs BEFORE the modem negotiation. The burp tone
is followed by about 3 seconds of silence, and THEN the modem negotiation
starts.
I wish I could remember what the option was that turned it off last
Fall, but that was almost a year ago...
