(ASCEND) Sportster issue

This comes from a newsgroup I frequent:
---quote---
: 2. If this is with the Lucent based modem cards, I'm starting to suspect
: recent Sportsters have an issue. I'm seeing reports on the Ascend mailing
: list that they aren't connecting to MAXen well either. Seems to be a glitch
: in the Sportster V.42 or V.42bis implementation. Turn it off and they seem
: to work ok. I know our support folks are looking into it. As well as
: a few other modem connect issues under 3.7.

Yup. When the Sprotsters (and the Couriers, I believe) request that
a packet be resent, they ask for the wrong one (off by one, don't
remember which direction). If a Sportster's on the other end, it
happily makes the same mistake, and sends the needed packet. If
the other end is a Sportster, it sends the packet that the
Sportster actually requested, rather than the one the Sportster
really wants.

We just swiched a POP over from sportsters to
Ascends. Dealing with the lusers has been fun...

So, this may be the cause of the problems we've all been seeing.
