Re: (ASCEND) ascend software releases

Hi Marc:

Kevin forwarded your comments to Tech Pubs, and I wanted to offer some
comments...

Tech Pubs received overwhelming support to begin compiling Release Notes in
a cumulative format.

I believe the predominant reason was that no one wanted to have to download
several copies of a Release Note to look for one feature or correction.

Coming soon, we'll be updating the organization of the RNs. Currently, as
you know, they are grouped by release, so all the features and corrections
for 5.0Ai13 are grouped together...all the features and corrections for
5.0Ai21 are grouped together, etc.

But this means you have to go section-by-section to find a specific feature
or correction.

After the next general release, all subsequent Release Notes will be
grouped to match more closely the structure of our manuals, with sections
like "Frame Relay", "IP Routing", "VPN", etc., and all corrections will be
grouped numerically in one list.

Ah, but you say, how will I know where a specific feature or TR was fixed?
I quickly answer that we'll indicate in each new feature or correction the
first available release that introduced the feature/fix...

Also, at the top of each Release Note, we'll have a "What's new in this
release" so you can see quickly if a particular release has something to
offer you.

Kevin has the ear of the Tech Pubs Manager and our entire department. Any
errors in the Release Notes will be corrected as soon as they are found.

If you find errors in the Release Notes, please let us know. Also, if you
have any other suggestions about Release Note structure, organization,
content, etc., please let us know that, as well.

Obviously, we'd like our documentation to satisfy every customer's needs,
but because that may be a physical impossibilty, we'd like to satisfy the
majority of people, but certainly not frustrate ANYONE. Please let us know
your thoughts...
