(ASCEND) Motorola VoiceSurfr 56k and Ascend 5.0Ap16 problems

Here's where I've got to so far:

There are 4 versions of the motorola firmware that I know about out there 
(culled from the readme file with the motorola flasher program).

The response to ati3 from these versions are:
	V0.516-K56_DLS
	or
	V0.519D-K56_DLS
	or
	V0.519D1-K56_DLS
	or
	V0.519Z1-K56_DLS

I had a VoiceSurfr with V0.519D-K56_DLS, and when I attempted to connect to 
the Ascend I got a 300 baud connection with garbage.

By using an init string of AT+MS=11 to force V.34 only I could get it to 
connect at 33.6.

Ascend's support wrote to me saying they have the same modems, they have 
version V0.519D1-K56_DLS, and they get 56k connections.

Motorola have sent me a beta release of the flash upgrade due to go out at 
the end of next week. I installed this, now my modem gives version 
V1.009-K56_DLS. I still can't connect at 56k, but this time instead of 
getting a 300 baud connection with garbage when I try to connect at 56k I 
just get NO CARRIER.

Can anyone else confirm this situation or give me their results?
