I think the secret is to get the cisco side to authenticate (since it's
dialing into the MAX), without insisting that the MAX also authenticate
itself. In older versions of IOS (pre 11.0 I think), that was not
possible without disabling authentication on the cisco. With newer
versions, they added an option to:
ppp auth dialin pap/chap
which tells the cisco to authenticate dialin users, but not to require
reverse auth from the answerer, when the cisco dialed.
