My only recommendation is to drop a tarballed or dd-ed image of what she has now right on to the new computer (tweak the boot-sector, etc, so that it boots) and see how the old OS holds up. This way she will feel no change and potential (mis-configuration) glitches from the migration. I am a bit old-school and conservative if not careful with making changes.
