I don't know that "mod" is the word, but that's kind of how drivers for wireless NICs used to work - there was a wrapper for the binary blobs. As you may imagine, this was far feom optimal and only worked some of the time. You should check if there's a cups or what's it. Gutenprint! Yeah, those guys.
