With a simple 'updatedb' command via command line in within terminal on a 10.04 ubuntu 2.6 system and then a locate -b firefox one can completely removed the old firefox 20.0 file by file. Once done preferably 'reboot' and upon entering the 'updatedb' command once again can be performed via terminal. Again allowing the 'root user' to see if any existing files can be seen via command --> 'locate -w firefox'. Repeat as necessary.

Simple solution to using an older kernel with a stable gnome 2 desktop although gpg keys may no longer be able to function this could save libraries around the world alot of money with low budget computing costs. Especially if you connect them all behind a solid Firewall.
