He's suggesting that you need to install the virtual machine guest
additions before it works properly.

I do have it working, I can't remember the exact steps but I don't have 3D
enabled, just 2D and only 64 MB of video RAM. Unity was updated to have a
2D version so you don't need 3D to run it any more. I installed the virtual
machine additions and the non-GPL  VirtualBox Extension Pack.

It works, it's sufficient for occasional usage, beyond that I don't really
have much to say about it.
