So Microsoft wants to be a communications company?  

Investing in Facebook was brilliant judo against google.  But being against competitors isn't a viable long term business model.  

To succeed, Microsoft should divest into a series of smaller companies, and try grow again. 

Instead, I bet they buy Twitter.   Much like Skype, It could be integrated with Outlook and the Xbox.
