I'm not sure what a LAN means in this context, but perhaps something like FreeNAS would be suitable? Also, why FreeBSD 7.4? You might consider 8.2. The canonical freebsd documentation is the handbook, located at http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/. It should be sufficient to work through any common freebsd questions or tasks.
