First thing: check for loose cables on the "dead" drive. Second: Put the drive in another machine, to determine whether that machine recognizes the drive. The drive might be OK; the problem could well be that the IDE or SATA ports have died on the original motherboard. Third: follow Brian Wall's suggestions.
