I've tried this on my laptop after forgetting all of my passwords and it 
did drop me to a root shell. When I tried to do a 'passwd' to change 
mine, it only allowed me to type in one character before accepting it as 
an entry. Look out for that issue so you don't overwrite the password to 
an account you do know the password to.
