Which distros of Linux have you tried before? I think most should work
"out of the box" with a wired connection. Sometimes wireless is a little
trickier.

I suggest you try out Ubuntu, http://ubuntu.com . There is a new release
coming out in a week. I haven't had any problems with a wired internet
connection and wireless has gotten better with every new release, which
happen every 6 months.
