IMHO, RDP is a terrible protocol, especially for over links with higher latency. I have run into a lot of issues with sluggishness and delay in an RDP session. When I know that I am going to be connecting frequently to a machine over a slow link, I usually deploy VNC or Remote Administrator ( http://www.radmin.com).
