I figured out my problems with the lockups -- a bad memory *slot*.

I tried both my memory sticks (identical 512MB Crucial RAM, but bought a
year apart) alone, in either slot, and there's a bad slot. In one slot,
the machine ran fine under heavy load for over a day -- in the other,
the same random lockup behavior that prompted my first post.

So, since I can't use both sticks at once, anybody want a half-gig of
RAM?

Dan
