Most importantly, they are relatively inexpensive. They are both AMD friendly, which is important to me. And both are Linux / Open Source savvy, and offer choices in pre-installed Linux. I've also used http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/ for a low end server, and for a couple of desktop machines.
