Our messages probably crossed on the 'net.  There is a "Single UNIX 
Specification" and that is what I'm referring to.  POSIX is one aspect of 
that standard, I guess, but I haven't studied it much.  Apparently, the 
Linux Standards Base (LSB) was based on the Single UNIX Specification 
Version 2.  This is a couple of years old:
