I don't concur.

The "network unreachable" message tells me that the NIC on the linux box isn't
set up correctly.  If it were a firewall issue the pings would be rejected by
the firewall or be silently dropped.  Either way you wouldn't get that message.

I would look to the linux box for the issue.  Make sure you can ping the IP of
the linux box from the linux box itself (not 127.0.0.1).  If you still get the
network unreachable message then there is definitely and issue with the linux
network setup.
