Customers can look at the source code of Windows, tell Microsoft about bugs
and suggest improvements, thus saving the firm a lot of money-but they still
have to pay for the next version. 

Which is a good thing. It's bad enough that we have Windows 95 with 4
different service packs, Windows NT4 with 6 different service packs, Windows
98 and 98SE, and Windows Me. Imagine if anyone could roll their own
Windows...

Then again, tech support would have Mac as the only supported platform, so
maybe it isn't so bad after all. :)
