I've had an HP laserjet 4L since about 1995.  It's been rock solid. 
No drivers necessary, works fine with standard lpd/lpr.

parallel interface
energy star compliant
300 dpi
1M RAM (expandable to 2M)
4 pages/minute
small footprint (about 1 sq ft)

Only drawback is it doesn't hold a lot of paper.
